Africa’s largest faith group turns to solar

From the newsletter
Solar energy is reaching every corner of society, and now, it’s lighting up churches. The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has partnered with Huawei Technologies to power more than 4,000 Catholic institutions in the country. Across Africa, faith-based institutions are fast embracing solar power as clean energy becomes central to daily life.
This is a significant milestone for renewables. The Catholic Church is by far the largest faith organisation in Africa, representing almost a third of the continent’s population and operating more than 73,000 churches.
In Kenya, the Church is going a step further, using solar not only to power its facilities but also to support electric mobility. Through a partnership with EV company Spiro, it plans to install charging stations at churches nationwide.
