Independent power producers GenVision Power, Tatanga Energy and AMDG Energy have signed an agreement to jointly develop a 300 MW solar power project with 800 MWh of battery storage in Zambia’s Copperbelt region. This will provide a major boost to one of the country’s key economic regions, which plays a critical role in the energy transition.
The country’s load-shedding situation has worsened, with this week’s electricity schedule allocating industrial users only seven hours of power and residential customers just three hours, as the crisis continues to deepen.
Several solutions have been proposed, including halting power exports and developing cross-border transmission lines. New projects are being fast-tracked, with at least 1,000 MW approved for construction in 2025.
