The North African country is seeing a deal between the utility ONEE and government entities to accelerate the supply of 5 GW of green electricity to its industrial sector by 2030. This creates opportunities for energy developers, particularly those with the financial capacity to deliver large-scale projects, given Morocco’s history with major energy initiatives.

  • Currently, coal generates more than 60% of Morocco’s electricity. Renewables are expanding rapidly, with wind and solar now supplying about 25% of the country’s power, up from 9% in 2015.

  • Morocco’s electricity demand is expected to rise 50% by 2035, driven by cooling demand, industrial growth, and electrification. The country plans to meet this with 52% renewables by 2030, supported by regional grid interconnections.
