Q&A: ON Energy Consult on building local capacity for Ethiopia’s renewables future

Ethiopia set ambitious energy goals, and while projects were booming, many struggled due to limited local capacity. Gaps in technical skills and business models slowed progress. Seeing this challenge, Filagot Tesfaye founded ON Energy Consult & Trading. In an interview with Renewables Rising, she shares the company’s progress and future goals.

• Ms Filagot is the Founder and Managing Director for ON Energy Consult and Trading, based in Ethiopia, which helps build local capacity and give local experts a voice in energy projects. She is also a champion of women's empowerment.

• “Graduates know the theory but struggle with practical applications… understanding the entire ecosystem, including which financial institutions can support them, is critical,” says Ms Filagot.
