Scatec unveils solar mounting system to fast-track rollout

From the newsletter

Release by Scatec, a subsidiary of Scatec ASA, is rolling out a new solar panel mounting structure designed in South Africa to make clean energy faster and cheaper to deploy. The company has signed lease-to-own deals for 64 MW of solar power and 10 MWh of storage in Liberia and Sierra Leone, its first projects using the new mounting structure.

  • Traditionally, African power projects have used debt-heavy EPC contracts that took years to complete. Scatec’s leasing model turns energy into an operating expense, helping utilities expand faster and manage costs better.

  • With nearly half of the continent facing debt distress, this approach offers governments a way to develop large-scale projects quickly and without major upfront costs, a model already common in C&I solar markets.
