Sun King to localise solar assembly by 2026

From the newsletter

Leading off-grid power company Sun King has signed a non-binding agreement with Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency to assemble solar kits locally and boost renewable energy access. The partnership supports the “Nigeria First” localisation policy and could reduce import dependence by as much as $150 million over the next five years.

  • Sun King sells over 330,000 solar kits each month across Africa, with Nigeria now ranking among its largest markets, recording sales of around 75,000 units per month.

  • The company has also been expanding its financing base, raising its first local-currency debt facility worth $80 million in Nigeria and securing a $156 million securitisation deal for its Kenyan operations.
